The main responsibilities of the branch Manufacturing and Engineering include the management of engineering and maintenance of production environment; the production of high security printed matter and related services; and to ensure that the GPW’s production equipment is in a state of readiness.
Identity Documents
- Produce the country’s green book identity document and ID smartcards, airline crew member cards, firearm permit cards, SA Revenue Service (SARS) custom official card, correctional service official card.
- The unit has a capacity to produce a minimum 3 million cards up to 9 million cards annum
Travel Documents
- The Unit produce Citizen, Diplomatic, and Official Passports. Refugee and Permanent Resident Travel Documents. Minor and Adult Versions available.
- A minimum of 1.2 million passport booklets to 3 million passport booklets are produced yearly.
High Security Certificates
- These include Birth, Death, Basic and Higher Education Certificates. Vehicular, Refugee, Permanent Resident and Police Permits. Visas and other paper Travel Documents.
- The Unit’s capacity can produce 140 million to 360 million A4/annum
